muse: v.i. & t. 1, ponder; reflect. 2, gaze meditately. n. 1, a poet's inspiration or genius. 2, (cap.) a goddess presiding over one of the arts...Here be the place to get your muse on.
I have a CD by Kodo ("heartbeat" in Japanese), a Japanese drumming and folk-arts troupe that performs with taikos. The info in the CD booklet is too long to recount here, but Kodo at least began its existence as a communal group in the early '70s, living in isolation on the island of Sado, absorbing the old ways of doing things. Art as discipline, as extending a tradition rather than breaking with it.
We're in the home stretch. Then a long winter's nap.
I have seen two taiko drum groups, one a bit funky like this, one very traditional. I'd like to see Kodo-I have a ripped CD of them and really like it!
